I’m working on a multi-part blog about eternal security that’s going to take me a while. In the meantime, I could really use your feedback. I have learned I have a 4 dB deficiency in my right ear. Basically, that means I hear sound in my right ear at a bout half the volume I hear in my left ear. When I’ve mixed my songs down in the past, I have compensated for this by playing a tone on my synthesizer and placing it in center speaker position. Then I have moved my amplifier’s balance control to the right until the sound appears to be coming from the center of the speakers. For all practical purposes, this should work when I’m mixing, because the sound being recorded into my computer’s software is, in fact, correct. I know this, because I can see the VU meters recording the sound levels properly. Then, that master mix is downloaded directly to YouTube or this web site.
What concerns me is I have recently been told that my mixes are “left-heavy”, meaning most of the instruments in a song appear to be coming from only the center to the right speaker. Very little sound is coming from the left channel. So, if you would help me out by listening to one of my songs, preferably from one of my later CDs , like “The Return” or “?” for a few minutes, and post a comment if you hear this problem or if you think the mix sounds correct and balanced. It's really easy just to leave a comment below. Use any name you like. Your email address and web site (if you have one) are kept secure, and not required.
I think the best test is to make sure that the bass and snare drums and bass guitar are coming from the center of the left and right speakers. Of course, you need to make sure you’re sitting in the center of the speakers.
I really appreciate it. I’m really concerned that if my music is that poorly mixed, how many people who would normally listen to my music, turn it off after only listening to it for a short while, and never hear the message of the song.
